A stock exchange, or share market, provides facilities for stock brokers and traders to buy and sell company stocks. The New York Stock Exchange, or NYSE, is a stock exchange based within New York City. It is also called the “Big Board”. It is absolutely the largest stock trading market in our world with respect to volume in dollars. Even though the share volume of NASDAQ exceeded that of NYSE during 1990, the NYSE constitutes the largest and probably most significant financial network of the world today.

The NYSE is operated by NYSE Euro next. The trading floor of The New York Stock Exchange is located at 11 Wall Street and it has 4 halls used for trading. There is also a second location that can be found at 30 Broad Street. A fifth trading room was in operation for a period of time but it was eliminated in February 2007. The NYSE allows investors to buy and sell stoles of companies that are registered openly for trading within the public. The NYSE trading hours is always from 9:30 to 4:00 ET.

From Jan 24, 2007 all the stocks of NYSE can be traded through electronic Market with the use of internet except some stocks which are costly. Customers send their orders which are executed immediately for trade in market. The stock quote of NYSE can be got in a real time basis from many sites in internet. The stock quotes give us detailed prices of the stock at any particular times which are said in percentage points. One dollar in stock is equal to a full point in the US and the price of stocks is also quoted in increments of a point which is equal to one-eighth of a point.
